It has been a summer of rumors for American Idol ever since Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced they would be leaving American Idol 2012 after two years as judges. Who would fill their seats and would Randy Jackson return? Mariah Carey was announced as a new judge back in July and the rumors have been flying ever since, but now we know for sure. FOX announced that Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will be joining Mariah at the judges’ table and coming back for American Idol Season 12 (and his twelfth with the American Idol) is Randy Jackson.
Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban have been the last names mentioned as judges for American Idol Season 12 and it was said that Randy Jackson would return and I guess all the rumors were true, as FOX confirmed today the three would be joining Mariah as judges for American Idol Season 12! Randy was said to be coming back as a mentor for American Idol, but not as a judge, but with Mariah at the table how could he say no?
Let’s talk pay for these American Idol Season 12 judges: Mariah Carey is said to be making about $17 million for one season, which is insane and can she help the ratings that much? As far as the new American Idol judges, Nicki is said to be making about $8 million and Urban is making about $4 million. Quite a pay wage gap, but more power to the women!
As far as the addition of Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban to American Idol Season 12, FOX said: “Nicki’s an unbelievably captivating international phenomenon who has made an indelible mark on rap and pop. And Keith is another great addition to Idol – he’s one of the biggest stars in country music and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him. With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan [Seacrest], we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.”
Despite the rumors of Nick Jonas, Adam Lambert, Enrique Iglesias and Katy Perry joining Idol for the new season, FOX decided on Minaj, Jackson, Carey and Urban to help bring their ratings back. Do you think it will work? With the success of country artists the past few season on Idol, I think the addition of Urban as a judge is perfect. I think Nicki is in her own world and will bring the sass and upbeat charm that will make people turn in. Carey has the diva status and could say some crazy shit during her critiques and Randy is Randy. Your thoughts?
